Your primary role as a swimming teacher is to educate, motivate, plan and deliver to a diverse range of participants to provide them a key life skill. Whilst you don’t need to be an Olympic swimmer or have any previous experience, you do need to have a passion for swimming, water safety and passing on knowledge.

What the course entails?
Course resources are administered via our online system HIVE Learning and the pre-course element; SwimRight assessment is completed via Surpass Viewer (Please note this pre-course element cannot be completed using a mobile phone). All other elements of the course can be completed using a mobile phone.
Course Prerequisite:
*Age 16yrs or over
*Scottish Swimming Member
*SwimRight Pre-course element (Details to complete this will be sent onto candidates following booking confirmation via our online platform (HIVE) APX 2 weeks before the course begins, this takes apx 4.5 hours to complete)
PLEASE NOTE YOU MUST COMPLETE THE MANDATORY PRE-COURSE SWIMRIGHT ELEMENT BEFORE ATTENDING THE FIRST DAY OF THE COURSE.
Outline:
The Scottish Swimming Teacher Qualification (SSTQ) is the industry standard for those who wish to teach unsupervised to groups of swimmers with a range of abilities and is essential for seeking employment as a swimming teacher. This qualification is achieved from a practically-based course and will allow you to gain the necessary skills and experience prior to progressing to an aquatics working environment. It will support your ongoing learning and development ensuring that you are fully prepared to deliver high quality lessons. This qualification sits on the Scottish Qualifications and Credit Framework (SQCF Level 7).
As part of the qualification there is a pre-course module; Swim Right (mandatory) which needs to be completed prior to attending the first day of the course. In order to complete SwimRight, candidates are required to complete pre-course reading on Hive Learning and then complete the assessment on Surpass Viewer; this is a software which can currently only be downloaded to a tablet/laptop/computer. Full details will be provided to candidates following the booking deadline approx. 2 weeks prior to the course start date.
