STREET FOOTBALL IS COMING TO TOWN

Inverclyde Leisure’s “Street Football” project is funded for 3 years by the Big Lottery Funds, Young Peoples Fund. Providing a floodlit portable (15 x 10 metres) football pitch where games are played by teams of four players, at least one of which must be female.

The pitch will be used THROUGHOUT Inverclyde’s communities providing a well structured safe environment for young people to socialise and engage in team sports through FAIR PLAY. Promoting a healthy lifestyle, by involvement in sport.

Street Football will be used to provide a positive activity as an alternative to life on the street that is intended to make an impact on reducing anti-social behaviour and increase the skills and confidence in young people. Empowering them to be involved in the running of the project and promote the employability of young people.

The medium to long term plans are to develop other relevant sporting activity, and using this, and Glasgow’s success in securing the 2014 Commonwealth Games as a medium to signpost young people into mainstream sport and activity.
